I am a procrastinator, so I wanted to take a minute to
encourage DNP students to please manage your time. The day only has 24 hours
and they can go by fast especially if you are in DNP school. DNP programs are
all about writing and creativity (2 things that I suck in). Writing and
creating something can take up days or even weeks (depending on the grading
percentage involved). I spend at least 40 hours a week to write or read
something for school. Even with a 40 hour investment, most weeks feels
unaccomplished to me.
If possible, please give up on your social life. Remember you can go back to that once you graduate.
This post does not mean that you should deprive yourself of everything except school work. You have to make it a point to find some time during the day to relax or revive yourself; otherwise you will easily burn yourself out from school and studying.
Try to prioritize your schedule daily and take care of yourself. Good Luck!

Time management is indeed an issue when one is in school, and pursuing a doctorate degree, for that matter. I work full time as a manager five days a week from eight to five so my schedule is hectic not to mention my role as a doting dad to two beautiful daughters also take priority on my daily to-do list. I always tell friends and acquaintances that it is hard to concentrate and accomplish school tasks when my sweet 10-month old is babbling uncontrollably that I'd rather play with her or spend quality time with my 7 year-old than do my schoolworks.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I catch myself just to realize that I need to finish my assigned readings, post my replies to the discussion boards, and complete my papers, etc. Time management is a challenge to me considering the above factors that come into play but no matter what, I am aware that I have to make some sacrifices for the betterment of my grades and of course, for a promising future for my family.
Although I am inundated with my work, personal, and school schedules I don't forget to spend precious time with my family as much as I can or as much as my schedules permit because for me that is priceless as well as it helps me unwind thus preventing undue burn out.
Setting priorities and valuing what is truly important. In the hierarchy of life, family always comes first and the rest plays second fiddle...
